If it wasn't for Maiden, metal would have died back in the early eighties... Maiden succeeded in waking up the old generation of rock fans, while being accessible enough to attract the younger bloods who were trying to find their own musical slot... they were also vibrant and (dare I say) poppy enough to appeal to a large element of the mainstream... my bro was a big Maiden fan, so was I... my Dad loved them, my mum would sing along to some of their stuff, and even today I find I'm lending my old maiden LPs to my Scouts... and Bruce was a top bloke... I met him once at Castle Ashby while he was filming a documentary about fencing, and he was nice as pie... no rushing, perfectly happy to stop and chat.... did you know he was once in the position of suing himself...???
