Pope Suffers from Lung Problems
Pope Second Night in Hospital Calm -- Italy State TV
ROME (Reuters) - Pope John Paul's second night in hospital was "calm" and without major problems, Italian state television Rai reported on Thursday, citing hospital sources.
The 84-year-old Roman Catholic leader has been in Rome's Gemelli hospital since Tuesday night, when he was rushed there for urgent treatment for breathing problems brought on by a bout of flu.
An official bulletin was expected later on Thursday.
The Vatican said the Pope suffered an attack of laryngospasm, a blockage of air to the lungs. Vatican Secretary of State Angelo Sodano said on Wednesday that he hoped the Pope's illness "will all be cleared up in a few days."
The frail Pontiff also has arthritis and Parkinson's disease, which have steadily reduced his mobility and ability to speak clearly in recent years.
No offense to the guy but I REALLY think he should retire. He's too old and sick for such a stressful job.
