My English professor decided to limit the amount of internet sites that we could use in our research essay to one, so I have spent the majority of my time today flipping through books (and even 2 tomes that we just happened to have around the house) trying to find my information. However this was one task (Among many) that highschool did not prepare me for. Another point of proof toward my belief that the public education system is broken (or atleast the KERA system in Kentucky is.)
And for those of you who don't know what a tome is:
tome /tohm/
–noun a book, esp. a very heavy, large, or learned book.
What, that you couldn't use Internet for research papers or that high school didn't adequately prepare for Internet-free college research?

Gregorian Chant... I don't know why, but there is nothing that comes close to the calming effect this music has on me. I use it in 2 instances (1) when I really need to calm down, and (2) when I need to concentrate on a task at hand... however certain classical music helps me concentrate as well.

lol I was ready to search tome when I saw your definition.
My school is wired in some ways, the teachers usually hate Wikipedia and give us a bunch of propaganda garbage against it. They at times will not even like us to use Google and want us to use "databases."
I don't think so...we are not doing ACTUAL research, we should use the fastest and easiest tools.

I partially understand their problem with wikipedia, however what they say about can be a double-edged sword.
Fact: anyone can edit articles on wikipedia (though some are protected... the Halo 3 article is killing me right now, because I can't edit the Halo 3: Recon part of it) However, for everyone who wants to change wikipedia article Maliciously, there are several others who would be more than willing to fix it.
Just don't trust it for rumors. 🙂

It's unnecessary
They usually get on bad edits on Wikipedia. If you find one yourself it is sort of one's part to fix it.
