What's your favorite kind of April Fools' Day joke?

Random, surreal humor that confuses people 30.52% 24450
Silly jokes that don't fool people 6.1% 4886
Pranks that fool people for a few seconds 18.45% 14779

Invisible poll options that confuse almost everybody 0.42% 337
Cruel pranks that get people seriously angry 15.29% 12252

Ugh... stupid Invisible poll options...

I think, however the ultimate April Fools Joke is a simple joke that can fool the world. That would be fun to do. Kinda like Orson Wells' war of the worlds... or at least how it is usually depicted.

Though, I do find it humorous...

The War of the Worlds was an episode of the American radio drama anthology series Mercury Theatre on the Air. It was performed as a Halloween episode of the series on October 30, 1938 and aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network. Directed and narrated by Orson Welles, the episode was an adaptation of H. G. Wells' novel The War of the Worlds.

The first two thirds of the 60-minute broadcast was presented as a series of simulated news bulletins, which suggested to many listeners that an actual Martian invasion was in progress. Compounding the issue was the fact that the Mercury Theatre on the Air was a 'sustaining show' (i.e., it ran without commercial breaks), thus adding to the dramatic effect. Although there were sensationalist accounts in the press about a supposed panic in response to the broadcast, the precise extent of listener response has been debated. In the days following the adaptation, however, there was widespread outrage. The program's news-bulletin format was decried as cruelly deceptive by some newspapers and public figures, leading to an outcry against the perpetrators of the broadcast, but the episode launched Orson Welles to fame.

I have heard this broadcast myself (I obtained a copy of it a few years back) and it is true that there were no "commercial" breaks, but there were at least 3 (that I can remember) points where they would stop and say something to the extent of: You are listening to a radio adaptation of H.G. Wells' "War of the Worlds".

Yet there was still public outrage. 🙄

hope no one got the virus that was launched today.

Keep your Windows and Anti-Virus updated. I have a firewall that blocks programs from accessing the internet without my permission so that virus would be little real threat to anyone with that tool anyways.

my dad did a full update yesterday.

a friend just signed onto the internet and got it. he said all teh virus does is tell u you dont have permission to do anything.

really sucks, since today was presentation day on projects but thankfully he keeps his stuff on his external hard drive

I was using it as a comparison of results, not saying that the War of the Worlds thing happened as an April fools Joke. Hell, it even says in the quote that it happened on October 30 as a halloween special. Guess I thought I was being more clear on that than I guess I actually was. Or perhaps you are simply being foolish... or not reading entire posts, who knows. 🙂

The thing wasn't even intended as a joke. But it had the result I seek.

Ugh. Viruses. Created by fools with no life, morals, or decency out to ruin the lives of others (or steal from them.) I feel nothing but disdain for said people.

does anyone know any WWII movies that show footage of the Concentration camps?

But not to the extent that it is famed for. A mass uproar is as much a hoax as the show was.

The Band of Brother's Mini-series does.

I knew not many were really fooled at the time, but I thought that there was still quite the uproar. Which makes sence because people seem to enjoy being pissed off at something (even if there is really no reason to be pissed off at it.)

Maybe not, I wasn't there.

Yes, which makes your decision to post it on 04/01 make no sense at all. It wasn't meant for a prank at the time anyway.

Sophie's Choice, the tv series Holocaust, La Vita est Bella, Jacob's Ladder, Slaughterhouse 5, For Those I loved... There are many many movies.

yeah there are many movies, but my problem is finding what ones are at my Block Buster.

i already have Downfall, so my Hitler scenes are pretty much covered from that movie. I need some FDR movies/footage.

i know for a fact Life is Beautiful (La Vita est Bella) is here.

Downfall? Oh, Der Untergang, okay... lol.

Sophie's Choice must be an easy one to get I think. I got it very cheaply.

i'm really going to look for that one^ and Jacobs Ladder.

i wish i could find some documentaries around here, bcuz no actor is going to look like the Jews did at the camps.

i need the doc called "The long way home" they have good footage by the trailer.

And wasn't it you that once said that you shouldn't have to be absolutely specific? There is plenty of information in those statements for an inteligent person, which I have always consitered you to be, to understand what I was trying to say.

Try Amazon or something. Anything's available via internet.
