Oh yes....! Real nasty in places.
Never watch it alone in a darkroom with loud digital surround and then go to be alone in your place with nothing but your scene-photographic-memory to ambush your every thought as you attempt to get to sleep. (If you can even go into your darkened bedroom....)
If you allow yourself to get into it, it can be one of the most disturbing films of its type.... The US remake is pretty good too. (Even joltier.)

People gave it mixed reviews due largely to their disappointment with having to work out the non-linear plot and of course those who went with chatty friends keeping the atmos from taking hold...
Definitely best enjoyed in the first described-trauma-inducing conditions...

:😖hudders::
That's why I don't like scary films; the paranoia that follows. Even crap spooky movies do that to me.

::Joins you in the box:: 😆

*Turns on box interior light...Holds it under his chin for dramatic effect*
Yeah, theres a freaky dead boy springs up from the other side of the bed who stares at you and screams like a cat in it,
and thats when the REAL nasty ghost comes to get you in some of the worst ways imaginable...

*Feels temperature drop in box....*

Brrrrrrrrrr....!

More blue milk....?

The Grudge was the most awful, horrible, stupid, pointless, non scary horror movie i have ever seen. Waste of one and a half hours.

Depends on what you find to be disturbing. The Jap version (Ju-on)was more disturbing... The US one went more for jumps. (Besides which wait 'til you've seen the uncut version of the US one...)

I haven't seen the Japanese version, but i'll be waiting on the uncut.

I'm not one to see gore as horror really... I can watch that all night without being bothered at all... Yet other people resonate with that.
But a well done supernatural thing... (Not counting dodgy CGI) does it for me. The US uncut version WILL have the gore and the stuff that explains "The croak" and other stuff that just made little sense in the theatrical version. Trust me. It'll be evil....

Now everyone who saw the US one at the cinema without engaging in freindly convo with the people they were with, including myself, got into the atmos and then were walloped by the scares.... Were you chatting or something...? If so, sure I could understand a loss of tension.

I don't know about you but when I saw those films the first time I lived alone. Then the films repeated on my mind endlessly...!! Every little noise. Every slow creaking of my door. Nasty. 🍺

Oh well... 'night...

I was alone, i was watching it on my computer in a dark room... still didnt find it scary.

Horses for courses... I guess. 🙂
