Wow... I thought that was actually common knowledge.
Tropical Storms in the Pacific Ocean are called Typhoons.
Tropical Storms in the Atlantic Ocean are called Hurricanes.
It has to do with the direction of the rotation. Although if memory serves me correctly, a typhoon affecting the US is generally still called a hurricane.
