Watch this, it's gooooooood!

Another one I enjoyed...
'Always Outnumbered'- the inspirational tale of Socrates Fortlow played by the ever-present Laurence Fishburne, one of his best roles to date and that's saying a lot.

Oh yeah, a few more I remembered. Sorry for spamming but it's been a while since I've seen these lower budget movies and I don't remember them all at once.

'Happiness'- no real big time actors, but many that you will recognize. Small and quirky film, mostly centered around real life dramatic events but with silly and quirky twists, sometimes way outa left field but still maintaining itself believable. The best way to describe it, a dark and sad comedy. I know doesn't make sense. Anyways, it's not for everyone, there are some really disturbing scenes in this movie which some will find funny and yet other wil find offensive, so be warned but either way it's very entertaining and remember that it is a comedy at heart.

'Goat'- The Earl Manigault story- It's a movie about the greatest basketball player that never made it. I know there's others like this out there but this one is the real deal IMO and it's so much more than just a basketball story. Great acting from Don Cheadle and Forrest Whitaker in this one. This was the one that put Cheadle on the map IMO.

'Disappearing Acts'- This is one of those romantic dramas. Not something that I'm really a big fan of mind you, but this one worked for me. Wesley Snipes and Sanaa Lathan team up again on this one like they did in Blade, but this time Sanaa isn't his mom... 😘 Anyway, great flick to watch with your significant other.

'King of the Jungle'- This is John Leguizamos best acting up to date. I really didn't think of him as much of an actor until I saw this movie. Intense and gritty urban drama but told from the perspective of a 'Rainman' or 'Forrest Gump'.

'Fresh'- Same tradition as the previous one urban gritty drama and told from a child's perspective. Never saw 'Searching for Bobby Fisher' but always wanted to. Fans of that one should be able to appreciate this one but keep in mind the obvious differences. The kid in this movie gives a great performance IMO, truly memorable. Btw, Sam Jackson is also in this one.

'Broken Vessels'- I had to actually do a little research on this one. I remembered seeing it but couldn't remember the name or the actors. Very low budget small time movie but very enjoyable and entertaining. It's about two ambulance drivers who are hooked on heroin. Very engrossing film and gives a glimpse into the real world of these paramedics.

There's others of course but I don't remember right now. Anyways these are all low budget films, hence the topic of this thread, so don't expect anything out of this world when you watch them.

In case somebody missed it.

'The Locusts'- great acting by Vince Vaughn and Jeremy Davies in this one. I think Davies is a really underrated actor. Jeremy plays the role of 'Flyboy' in this one, very enthralling film, some may be disappointed by the ending.

'Going all the way'- Another Jeremy Davies film. This time he teams up with Ben Affleck. I didn't even notice that it was Ben Affleck when I saw this movie. Anyway, watch it for the surprise shocking suicide scene and for the scene between Davies and Rose Mcgowan.

'Smoke'- Small, indie type film starring Harvey Keitel. This film basically takes place in a cigar shop in Brooklyn NY. Lots of small vignettes and scenes shot of people reminiscing while smoking. Pretty enjoyable dialogue in this one. I especially like the scene with Mira Sorvino.

'Coffee and Cigarettes'- starring RZA, GZA, and Bill f**king Murray. hehe..if you watch the movie you'll get that joke. Anyway, pretty much in the same tradition as 'Smoke' only this time it's short stories over coffee and cigarettes.

'Swingers'- This really still can't be considered a low budget surprise or anything, considering the success it had but I just thought I'd mention it, in case someone hasn't seen it yet. It was a low budget film when it came out. Great film tho, one of my favorites of all time. Vince Vaughn is in this one as well with his old buddy Jon Favreau. If you enjoyed their recent movie 'Made' then you'll love this one, it's even better. Highly recommended. Favorite quote "You're so money baby and you don't even know it'

btw, why am I the only one who's still posting here? 😕

Ok, this will be the last one I post, I promise this time, I am seriously, especially since it looks like I'm the only 1 here. 😐

'Brother'- Again a very good low budget film that stars Takeshi Kitano(this man makes excellent films, very underrated actor.) He also wrote and directed in this one as well. The movie basically centers around an ex-Yakuza gangster who settles in Los Angeles. Omar epps is also in this one and though I'm really not an Epps fan at all, he did a good job in this one or at least he didn't ruin it for me. Anyway, highly recommended, check it out if you wish.

Now, screw u guys, I'm going home 😛

'Happiness' is a classic...That final scene...Oh my oh my oh my...

'Swingers' is one of my favourite movies of all time. If anyone hasn't seen it, they should...

I'd like to recommend 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'...It's fun, light and pre-dates the 'American Pie' series by a good few years...Plus, Sean Penn is hilarious in it.

The Conversation

Directed by Coppola and got an Oscar nod but this was released the same time as Godfather 2 so it got overshadowed and lost in the history books and categorized as a film school movie.

Has one of my favs Gene Hackman (in a role as a neurotic eavesdropper very un-Popeye Doyle/French Connection) and the woman from Laveren & Shirley (Shirley).

Compelling plot about privacy (audio) and Murch does a great job with the audio effects, especially for the time. Based in San Francisco too. A good old shot of Union Square.

Most non-Americans haven't seen it...It was written by Cameron Crowe of Almost Famous, Vanilla Sky, Jerry Maguire movie...

I'd also like to recommend 'Sling Blade' starring and directed by Billy 'The Bob' Thornton...It's beautiful.

I adored Sling Blade, fantastic.

And yes, a lot of people outside of American haven't seen FTARH.

Ok, I know I already said I wouldn't post anymore but goddammit I forgot one but this will be my last, for real this time, I am so seriously this time. Anyways...

'Kiss the Sky'- This one is about two professionals who get bored with their lives and decide to take a trip to the far east. They leave their friends and families behind and opt to go on alcohol and opium binges instead in an attempt to reclaim their youth and lust for life while at the same time going through a lot of soul searching. Throw in Terence Stamp playing a Dutch monk and you just cant go wrong.

In the end, this movie leaves you questioning whether you should do the same? Hmm...thinking...lightbulb😕

It is a comedy/horror film, wherein bruce campbell is Elvis and an old black guy who is JFK , live in an old peoples home , and fight an undead mummy. It sounds terrible , but in reality is ace. It has great emotional resonance for a film of this type and when you hear the storyline you think that this is not possible but it is, at the end of this movie you will have made a connection with the characters. The music for the film excellent and it is very funny. This is a special film.

Thank you a lot for recommending this movie. I really enjoyed it.

Disco Pigs
what is the colour of love?

a film get in Cork in the Irish republic where 2 friends, pig and runt were born on the same day in the same hospital and grew up next door to each other

pig (the male lead)becomes obsessively in love with runt (the female lead) but it is a case of unrequieted love...his obsession leads to increasingly erratic behaviour and tragic actions in which pig has no care for the consequences

the film has think irish dialogue and is hard to understand but the emotion in the film trancends the need for the dialogue

a wonderful film indeed

Anyone who hasn't seen 'The Boondock Saints' should go get a copy right now...It's sooooooo good. Why-oh-why was it never realised on the BIG screen?

Irreversible, I stand alone, Happiness, Dog Soldiers, Sweet Hereafter.

Platoon, Dazed And Confused, Shattered Glass

one night at McCools....

Donnie Darko.

Probably the best film I have seen in years, great work was put into it. A bit of a "cult classic" if you will, until it blew up and the distributors knew they could make money by bringing out the directors cut. I would highly reccomend it though...very dark, makes you think, and well...It includes a dillusional guy who sees a bunny who tells him when the world will end. What more you want?

^ Uhh...

I'd like to recomend 'Infernal Affairs', I'm sure some of you cats have seen it, but if you haven't...do so now! The original is by far the best, the second is good too and the third isn't bad either. I hear that they are making a Holly**** remake of it too...
