What if Anakin's Lightsaber Fails During the Duel?

I was just thinking about the previous Obi-Wan vs Anakin (Vader) duel in ANH. Obi-Wan's lightsaber starts to fail in their duel.

We haven't seen this happen again anywhere else in the whole saga.

So wouldn't it be interesting if Anakin's Lightsaber were to fail at some point in the duel. It would tie in really well with the OT. It would also lend a kind of sweet revenge for Vader when he kills Obi-Wan and Obi-Wan's fails.

I'm not sure how this could work exactly... but it opens up a number of possibilites...perhaps Anakin switches to a red lightsaber...maybe when Obi-Wan takes Anakin's lightsaber he repairs it but doesn't realize his own has the same defect...maybe he switches parts with his own and never gets to find a replacement. What is everybody else's opinion on this? Just an idea I had.

It would also lend well to the statement Obi-Wan made to Anakin in AOTC..."This weapon is your life!"

Um, when did Ben's saber fail in ANH?

Yeah it didn't fail, He simpley chose not to fight and turned it off lol

Ben's saber doesn't completely fail...it starts to flicker when he fights with Vader...I would call that a failure...If Vader had really wanted to he could have killed him right then!

His sabre seemed to be blocking DV's blows to me....

Similar thinking- "Well Obiwan could've beaten Darth Vader in ANH at any time because in that shot where Vader walks towards the closing blast doors after slaying Kenobi in the un-modified original version, his 'Sabre turns into a white stick...." 😉

The flashing was down to the rotation of the rotating-foil-covered sabres
used in the making of ANH....... 🙂

I stand corrected. Somehow I missed that this had been changed on the DVD. I watched it again and sure enough it has been fixed. Although in my opinion it looks even worse...it looks like a white stick with a glow around it. LOL. This is a pointless thread. 😆

It would be cool though say hey uses it so much in E3 he wears it out LOL, better than boring love scenes, in order to fix it obi made slight mods on it, that would explain the subtle differences between the ROTS and ANH sabers, plus than could give Anakin a chance to use a red one in the final duel.
