New vid camera?

So I'm getting a new vid camera this week for my b-day and I've been planing for this week for nearly a year. One problem though is I haven't found a vid camera that I know for sure I'm getting, though I do now it's going to be a mini-dv camera. I'm looking at the #300-$400 range. Any suggestions?

JVC or Panasonic. Those are brands at least that I find to be the best for filming.

All the reviews for JVC seem like they say (at least if they have had it for more then a few weeks) theirs broke, so I'd choose a Panasonic over a JVC.
