Is that question directed to anybody?

That's the $1m question, AC.

It's very difficult to separate.

Let's put it this way: If YOU had to establish a team photo, would be in yours?......being as objectively speaking as possible.

Sure, chime in. I'll speak for AC. 😛

That guy from Linkin Park is really good.

That guy does'nt deserve to be mentioned. Linkin Park as never been anything great (or good, even IMO), much less, their guitarist. That dude just plays distorted 5th chords.

No, you won't speak for me, and no, it wasn't originally aimed at anyone, but sure, go for it, 2D.

Well, Bob, if we're speaking objectively, you can't say there's no "best". Admittedly you can't judge every guitarist on Earth, and obviously we all know different guitarists, but a best can be established as far as we all know.

Unless we're discussing music, not ability.

well, eddie seems to have drank the same cup of vampire mutant blood that kieth richards endulged in. see him lately?

i hope he gets out of rehab soon, since ive been a van halen fanboy since i was a wee toddler (coincidentally the stones as well)

He's been out of rehab for about a month. He looks much better than he did before rehab when he looked like he had been wearing Sauron's ring for 200 years. Hopefully, Eddie will start playing again.

Very well said.

And, I did speak for you. 😛 ...too late to take it back.

Try though. Build your OWN team photo. Who is in it?

How many?

Great question. ....wherein lies the problem, that is so difficult to solve. If YOU pick say only the 5 greatest ever (in your opinion) obviously you've established a cut-off at 5.

That's clever...and picking that 5th one would pretty much be a crapshoot

No, not really.

I'll pick five of the best technical guitarists in the world, objectively. Not in order, not suggesting anyone isn't, or will ever be, better, but as of right now, five of the objective best:

Satriani, Vai, John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Eddie Van Halen.

-AC

But, I want you to agonize over the greatest guitarists EVER. ...not use today's best guitarists unless you feel that some of them are among the greatest ever, which coincidentally I considered Satriani to be one of.

Yes, and so are Vai, Gilbert, Van Halen and Petrucci.

There are others, but I picked a random 5.

Okay so YOUR team photo stops here then. Yes? No? If so, that's fine. Obviously, I included some older farts in mine. Now, if there was a collection of KMC's team photos, for every name mentioned that guitarist would receive 1 point, and a KMC's Music Forum list of the greatest guitarists ever could truly be formed.

I wonder how indicative it would be compared to music historians, producers, radio station GMs, other guitarists' list of their own greatest ever, etc, etc though?

I mentioned Van Halen too, and 😮 forgot about Vai. D'oh!

No, you said 5. I could go on and on with names, but what would be the point? Takes the fun out. I said they are 5, I could swap them any number of times.

Don't include "old farts" because they're old, that's just stupid.

Also, that wouldn't work, considering some people here don't know shit from clay, Bob.

As many as you desire until you feel the next name on the list doesn't belong in the group. Did that makes sense?

Exactly my point, and why everyone has a cutoff somewhere, whether it's 3, 5, 8, etc.

They are on MY list, because I think they belong, not because they're old. 😉

Exactly why people should study up on their history. 😉

i found out shortly after posting that. good news indeed (assuming he's serious about recovering and this isnt just a typical celebrity sobriety break) he looks.....well he looks like shit with a new haircut and new false teeth, but thats ok. whats important is that he doesnt seem to be struggling to form simple sentences. hopefully they wont cheese out of the reunion tour with dr. rockso...i mean david lee roth (ill bash the shit out of him, but i love the guy). as for michael anthony...everyone's pissed that he got fired...but really...van halen bass riffs are so damn simple i really dont think its important. plus eddies son wolfgang is supposed to be their new bassist....which would make the band more 'van halen' than ever.

He does cocaine.
