Did Episodes I and II play at Cannes, and if not...

Did TPM and AOTC play at Cannes? Cannes is generally reserved for more serious and arty fair. Does Lucas have that much confidence in ROTS? Enough to not only show it to the elitists but to open the festival with it? I think this bold move is a good sign.

Maybe the movie is mature and serious enough. I don't know about the first two.

Lets pray that that is the case....

I remember the episodes 1 & 2 did play at Cannes, but they did not open the fesitval.

Did they...? How'd they do respectively...?

If I am not mistaken, they both played at Cannes, but just were not submitted for competition.

But how well were they recieved by the critics/audience...?
(Particularly TPM....?)

That I am not sure of.

So, this means ROTS ìs submitted for competion, right? Being the festival opener and all.

I seem to remember that Monty Python's Meaning of Life (the weakest link of Python and their last work) was submitted, and while it didn't win, it received some kind of Achievement Award or Jury Price or something, as a kind of a nod to their complete works.
We could maybe expect the same for ROTS, George receiving a similar price as a nod to the entire SW sage, me thinks. Just don't expect nothing fancy like a Palme d'Or or nothing.

TPM did not play at Cannes...AOTC did.
