"A week" ... somehow, I find that incredibly amusing, seeing as this is the first time that I've posted here in over 6 months. I seriously cannot believe it. "A week"? "A WEEK"?! Uh huh ... rrriiiggghhhttt ...
But - I digress, of course, from the far more pressing matter, which is this: I'm back, baby!!! Wooo!!! 😄
First of all ... I want you all to know how sorry I am for literally vanishing in July for all these months with nary one word of warning. I can assure you - this was most certainly not my intention! I know that you guys are all sick of my leaving/coming back speeches, but I promise you - I didn't consciously go to the other extreme of bolting with no warning! I fully intended to return here, as promised, when I came back from my week in noo yawk (which was cool, btw, though it seems a lifetime away now 😛 ), but various events sadly conspired against me and led to this gaping absence ...
I would just like to say, though - thank you so, so much to all you guys who sent me PMs of concern over these past few months. I didn't mean to scare ya, but I'm just now glad to be back once more amongst such fine, upstanding individuals.
So then ... let's partay!!!

Actually ... there is just one more thing that I'd like to add. Since I DID effectively just up and vanish for the better part of half a year, I feel that I DO at least owe it to you guys to explain why, exactly, I went away for so long ...
I'd love to tell you that my mysterious absence has a cool story behind it (such as me deciding to abandon my former life and start a new, secret one in new york city 😱 ), but the truth is (annoyingly for me) far more mundane ...
For one thing, I had a lovely surprise waiting for me when I returned home from holiday - my laptop had up and died on me. It took me WEEKS to have it repaired, by which time, of course, I'd moved into a cool new flat in London (in late September)... which didn't have internet access for over 3 months!!! In fact, the only place where I could regularly use the internet was my college campus, and as I explained last year, they are not exactly very tolerant of people using the network computers to surf through message forums ... even ones as cool as the KMC 😛 .
True, I probably could have checked into an internet cafe or something once in a while just to show my face, explain the situation, and let you guys know that I was, um, alive. But truth be told ... I don't really like making only a half-arsed commitment to the KMC (which is the reason why I, um, "left for good" last year), and so I thought it best to wait until I was back home for the festive season. And so here I am! And now that my flatmate and I have finally had wireless internet installed into our flat, I hopefully foresee no more extended absences in future!
Kind of a boring story, huh? Bet you were expecting something more exciting than THAT 😛 ...

And my God - to think of how much stuff has happened since I was last here! Most importantly - those producers finally got off their backsides and actually cast James Bond! God ... after all those months of endless speculation as to who would fill the infamous tux (everyone from Pierce Brosnan to Eric Bana, Hugh Jackman to Clive Owen, and Ewan McGregor to Julian McMahon) I thought they'd never make up their minds! And what's more - they made, IMHO, a great, great choice in going for Daniel Craig. I realise that not everyone was happy with their choice (thinking of all those British tabloids that screamed headlines such as "James Bland!" and "James Blond!"😉, but I say - give the man a chance! He may not be an obvious choice - or a 'pretty-boy', per say - but I genuinely believe that he could restore a little bit of the dangerous edge that's been lacking from the character in recent years; 007 does still have a licence to kill, after all. And after hearing about his real-life seduction of the gorgeous Sienna Miller you just know that the man can give Bond that all needed charisma too 😛 !
In truth, I still have some reservations about Bond 21. I realise that they feel the need to 'shake up the formula' somewhat (especially after the lacklustre quality of last few Bond outings), but I'm still not completely sold on this idea of a "prequel" that wipes out ALL the established Bond lore - was there really any need for this? And though it may sound good in theory, showing us the way Bond was BEFORE he became a cynical, world-weary assasin could easily backfire ...
I was also saddened to hear confirmation by Martin Campbell that neither Q nor even Moneypenny will be making an appearance in "casino royale"; I mean, hiring new actors is one thing, but eliminating characters from the film altogether is quite different! Why would they even want to get rid of these stalwart, reliable, and loveable characters that have been in practically every single Bond film to date (every film in the case of Moneypenny)? It's not as if they were the reason for the last few Bond films being somewhat underwhelming ...
Still - at least the excellent Judi Dench as M is still onboard, and they've now got a great Bond in Daniel Craig to lead the way. Plus - the script by neil purvis and robert wade has now thankfully been given a polish by the writer of the Oscar-winning film "Million Dollar Baby", so there should hopefully be a more engaging story this time around compared with the last few Bond flics (which begs the question of why they even hire Purvis and Wade time and time again!). And finally - lest we forget - Martin Campbell DID also direct what I believe was the last truly great Bond film, "goldeneye".
Fingers crossed then, eh? And now roll on November 2006; can't bloody wait!
Well then ... rant officially over {at least for now 😛 }. I've been meaning to get some of these issues off my chest for months now, and I'm glad that I've now finally got around to actually doing it ...
But I gotta tell you guys ... I really feel kinda out of the loop here. It's not easy coming back after so, so long away and picking up exactly where ya left off. I mean, to think - all those threads left unfinished, all those things left unsaid ... and I can't even remember what they all were 😛 ! Ah well - must try harder next time ...
Though this fact really shouldn't shock me anymore, I am still utterly amazed by how many posts you guys {especially clovie and yerssot} manage to add to a particular thread while I'm away. As an example, this very thread is currently on it's 45th page; it was only on number fifteen when I left here in July! Ahhh ... doesn't time fly by so fast?
But ... slight disorientation aside, it really is great to be back here again amongst such fine people - and permanently at that {though I realise that I've said this all before ...}; whilst I never officially "left the building" back in July time, I'm certainly happy to have re-entered it now. So watch out guys and gals!
And on that note ... I leave you, no doubt, exclaiming the message conveyed by the photo below. And yes - I realise that I've used this attachment before, but I figured ... what the hell? It just seemed ... right, somehow ...

And speaking of the post count - well done you guys! Every time I come back I see that our post count just keeps getting bigger and bigger - it's now recently passed the whopping 80,000 mark! We're now officially one of the main contenders here at KMC - so let's keep at it! In the time that I've been away, we've finally beaten, amongst others, the comic book movies forum, the movie discussion forum, the computer/video games discussion forum, PLUS ... most importantly ... even the POTC forum (HA! Take THAT you Bloom/Depp/Knightley lovers!).
I see that our next target is the movie stars and celebrities forum with just over 103,000 posts; so then ... let's have at it!
Also on the subject of the forum ... I can see now that, after months {or is it years?} of speculation and waiting {akin to the search for the next James Bond himself}, we finally have our very own moderator 😱 ! When did THAT happen?! I really HAVE been away for far too long 😛 !

In particular, watch out clovie and yerss - it seems that your days of straying off into OT territory may well be over 😱 😛 ! Perhaps THAT will stop you guys from amassing such a ridiculously high {and secretly enviable} post count! I mean, it's mind boggling - Clovie is currently on 82,796 posts, whilst yerss is on a whopping 108,826! That makes you guys the two highest posters on the KMC!!! How do you guys do it?!! To put things in perspective, yerss has made four times more posts here in the last six months than I have in just over 3 years at the KMC {long absences not withstanding 😛 }.
So tell me guys ... what's the secret of your success? If it truly IS straying off into OT territory, then it'd be interesting to see what effect a mod has on you two in the long run ...
