And since Luke DID defeat Vader ... he does qualify as a jedi master - maybe not of the same level as some of the prequel era jedi masters, but definitely a jedi master ...

I thought Luke wasn't a Jedi master coz he didn't train somebody himself.

I'd love to kick Luke's a**. I really despise this young boy who is so very weak and needs a new haircut.
He's way too perfect in my eyes except his hair and looks.

yeah, before yoda's death luke asks if he is a real jedi.

Luke is a Jedi Knight at the moment the Emperor calls him it.

No one knows how you can become a master, we only know it with the help of EU

Yes, that is the point in the film where Luke really HAS become a Jedi Knight. He has confronted Vader, as Yoda said, and he has also recognised how to avoid the Dark Path. His training at that point is complete and the Emperor recognises this.

And then proceeds to destroy him very easily, until "The Chosen One" decides to step in.

Yes indeedy. Can hardly expect a novice Knight to beat Sidious!

As far as we know so far, only Anakin has that ability.

aw shucks ! suddenly i've started wishing that lucas makes episodes 7,8 and 9 now ........ can't just leave the galaxy with only one jedi knight whose not even in master class ! 😱

Luke would have been a Master by 7. If GL had stuck to the original plan. Which would have invovled the Emperor not being dead and the EMpire intact. Hmm.
