Well...technically it's a county.
So I'd go with Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Fountain Valley, or Mission Viejo.
All of them are nice, most of them are close to the beach, no snow, little rain, mildly warm winters, hot sunny summers...best of all, unlike New York and Los Angeles....you get a front yard and backyard
It's the coast of California in general.
A fairly average 2 story 4-5 bedroom house with backyard and front yard in Southern California is going to run you upwards of $550,000-$750.
Newport Beach and Huntington Beach have gated communities with hundreds of houses over the million dollar mark.
I hear Northern California near San Francisco has pretty hefty prices for relatively "average" houses as well...

Thats cheap compared to the current prices in London.
Actually those prices are way up over the past couple of years due to the growth in Orange County.
It's still a relatively undeveloped area in comparison to Los Angeles or San Diego.
And the million + houses really aren't that special....they're just highly priced in good neighborhoods.
There's been A LOT of new housing in the past 10 years.
