there was sidious, maul and duoko (i jacked that name up) so there were 3 at one point in time. why can't there be more?

its just a stupid sith cycle that they have 1 apprentice that will eventually chaallenge them and then kill them then take over as master then the cycle starts again...but sidious wanted it to work different in the OT by replacing his apprentice with someone else..but it didnt work in the end
