best Indie comic

Indies are comic series other than Marvel or DC
my favourites are SPAWN and TMNT

TMNT are better than Spawn though right?

Dark Horse Comics produces many great titles, such as the
"Aliens" and "predator" limites series'. Also the excellent
"Grendel" comics (probably my very favorites).

Even more "independent", there is "Johnny the Homicidal
Maniac" of a number of years back.

Darkhorse comics best is Mystery men

how far behind is england when it comes to the States comics?

depends on the series but some just rip you off
£10 for 30 pages when its brand new £10 is about $12
