Motivation

How do you guys get yourselves motivated? I really want to start writing again, but I can't pull myself out of the slump I'm in. I'll have an idea and start to think it through and just lose all my energy.

Also, how do you guys get yourselves out of a bit of depression? I haven't been able to do anything with my friends all week because of a large amount of crap schoolwork (yes, it is literally 'crap' schoolwork...do you know how not fun it is to learn Spanish history?).

have a bong hit

motivated when someone helps you or when you get something directly from it or it is fun and interesting.

Well, PVS' reply didn't help, and I can't even understand manny's, so...anyone else?

have another bong hit.

I believe doing that would impair my writing abilities to an extent greater than that of reading Asian Hulk's posts...

Zing.

POW

ok fine ill be serious.

i'm an artist and experience similar slumps. problem is, there is no answer. its most likely so abstract that nobody can tell you, since you have your own answer...if there even is one.

example- mattise, (sp?) a renound artist who instructed picasso i believe, decided to spend a few years of his life in paradise. where exactly i forget, but it was a tropical place, which he enjoyed tremendously and lived life like it was a dream. throughout this time he experiences ZERO stress and...well you get the picture.

point im getting at is he stopped creating. he totally lost all his drive and inspiration...from being in bliss.

see what i mean?

well.. do some exercise to get your blood flowin.. throw a few punches and kicks at the air, blast some high energy music.. and just think.. circulation is definately a part of getting motivated

well, to be more specific, getting your endorphins going could be the answer. whether it be weightlifting, jogging, sex...etc. one of many possible answers

lol @ sex.. I think thats a bit too much of a workout.. be fallin asleep afterwards instead of writing

yeah true, the sudden release of hormones is quite exhausting

so scratch that part 😛

I just ran with the dog...no luck.

have you tried day-dreaming about what you wanna write about?.. put yourself in your characters shoes.. sortof skimming the conversations in your mind.. along with the settings and such

^ Well, I like to write fantasy/sci-fi...but I can't get ahold of a concrete idea without really forcing it. When I force my writing, I end up hating it halfway through and want to vomit at what I've read.

have you tried listening to atmospheric sounds that deal with sci fi?
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=science+fiction+sounds&btnG=Search

you may also want to look at some sci fi imagery to boost your creativity.. do an image search on "Science Fiction" .. turns up alot of results
