buying a new bass.....

a few months ago, i started a band with my buddies. I am the bassist for the band (hence my name). I asked for a bass for christmas and my parents, being the sceptics that they are, figured that this was just a phase so instead of buying me one, they decided to rent one instead. so now i have been playing on this rented bass for a few months and there is no sign of stopping any time in the remotley near future so now, naturally, i want a bass of my own. So if anyone knows of any decent, relatively cheap basses (i'm short on cash right now) and where to get them i would love to know. hopefully, since my birthday is coming at the end of April, my parents will buy me one then, but i would still like suggestions now so i can give them ideas.

not a clue bud...i would go along with someone who knows what they're looking for in a bass when i go to buy one though

getting a cheap one is one thing...but making sure you get one thats going to last in the sense that the frets aren't made out of cheap metal and aren't going to wear away(like my cheap guitar) and making sure the neck isnt going to warp to easily through some serious punishment..

as for makes and models...i haven't got a clue what you should go for

but like i said...take a mate along who can help you out in choosing...cause shop ASSisntants will either try and fob you off for a quick sale if you dont have much money so they can get onto arseing around in the shop...or try and sell you the most expensive piece of kit in the shop if you have the money

just remember to keep enough left over for all the other crap that you'll need...amp, pleccys, strap etc...if you dont already have that stuff

ive seen people do that before...buying electric guitars...getting them home...and being able to do nothing until they have enough to get everything else they need

you might think its easily overlooked...but the excitement of getting a new guitar/base whatever means everything else is usually not on your mind

Go for a Squier P-bass or Jazz bass.

a Fender or Squier are good choice to start with ... I started with a Fender Jazz Bass , cool bass

right now my favorite bass is a Carl Thompson 4-string with a tremolo 😍

i wouldnt go to a mill's music to get a bass. they have a little and bad seletion. try guitar center. and ask a specialist about basses and see what they tell you.

fender jazz or precision will run you 400 or more.
squire jazz or precision will run you probably 200.
ibanez released the sound gear gto basses for 200 dollars and that's what i started on.
if you like deep tones try to get one of them.
if you like higher tones i suggest you go with the squire jazz or precision and try to save up for a fender.
also try to look through your news papers or tell it and sell it magazines.
i got a peavy 5 string for 150 bucks out of one

if there is one in your town, try a Sam Ash Music Store, they are cool there, good selection, theyll hook u up on as good beginner bass...
