Can Anyone Explain???

Can anyone explain to me the different DVD formats? Like, why I can't play DVD's from the UK for example on my DVD player? What is a multi regional DVD player and do I need one etc? Yeah, I'm just not that bright when it comes to all of this. 😮

so people dont steal... or copy right.. blah blah

to make it more difficult for us all

A multi region player can play ALL dvds from ALL countries. So can play Regions 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 (any others?)

You can't play REgion 2(UK) on your player since yours can only player American(Region 1) dvds.

I don't know how easy it is to find a multi region dvd player over there, but here in England you can find them in nearly all electronic shops, some are even now £20/30, my father has one for £30.

My dvd player, PC player and portable are all multi region.

Oh, I am not one on dvd player codes, so for information on how to see if your dvd player can be fixed to region free, someone else will have to go there.

It's like this.

0 is Region Free.
1 is USA and Canada.
2 is Japan, Europe; France, and Greece
3 is Korea, Thailand, Vietnam
4 is Australia, South America, NZ, and the Islands
5 is Africa, Russia and the former USSR countries
6 is Peoples Republic of China
8 is reserved for Airlines/Cruise Ships

7 and 9 aren't used.

you realise France and Greece are in Europe?

Region 2 is Japan also.

How do you find out what Region your DVD is? Is there something on the box or disc?

says on the back of the box with the other technical details

it would be the same region as the country of the shop you buy it in (bar imports)

Ah, got it. Thanks!

Oh, I see. Well, I just wanted to know because I've been trying to get a hold of a few foreign movies and I just didn't get region codes at all.

if you go into google and search put in the model of your player then "reigon free code" or something like that and it'll tell you how to get to the secret menu and turn off the reigons. this might not work if you have a cheap DVD player though

I just got screwed on a "Region Free" DVD Player. Everybody was saying "Get a Philips 642, get a Philips 642." So I did, and I bought Casshern, Region 2, and Ong Bak, Region 3. Casshern worked perfectly. I got halfway through Ong Bak, and then the picture turned into some kind of digitized fuzziness. If you have a cable box, where the picture pauses sometimes, then you know what I mean. And the sound went away. Moral of the story- some people have know idea what they're talking aboot (I did that on purpose), Philips sucks, and be careful when it comes to buying "region free" DVD players. Have a nice day. 🙂

Region 2 is also UK which is not mentioned in the afforementioned list.

Here is the actual list set down by my DVD player:

1 USA, Canada
2 West Europe (U.K.), Japan, South Africa
3 South East Asia
4 Australia, Spanish America
5 Russia, East Europe, Africa
6 China

0 Region Free (But not all players have this ability)

Thanks for the info. I was able to find out how to change the regions and it worked.
