Who would you choose to die instead of Boromir?

Boromir doesn't die! Sombody else does!

If you had to choose ONE member of the fellowship to die at Amon Hen, instead of Boromir, who would it be?
or would you still let Boromir die? 😠

Legolas!!! 😱

joking. 😖hifty:

As much as I love Boromir, I'll still want him to die, because it's the only way. ✅

yeah, I'm being terribly lame today, but I'm loving it. 😄

I want FRODO to die 😛

...well...I know he couldnt...but I dont like him...and he irritates me... so DIE FRODO DIE!

The most enjoyable death scene would definitely be droolio Legolas droolio but the stupid attention whore just can't get like five minutes completely for himself, that would ruin the movie...
The worst would be Gimli, it would somehow look like the author tried to get rid of some 'unimportant' character...
Aragorn would be too tragic. And too un-controversial.
Frodo... would sound too contrived. And make no sense concerning the planned ongoing plot. Serait interesting, though, as this would completely tear apart the just evolved inner structure or hierarchy of the fellowship... the problem is that the book would, then, have to focus too much on the following problems within the fellowship instead of being able to concentrate on the protagonists' characters' other facets and their relationship to the rest of Middle-earth. Too obstructing, that's not worth it.
Sam... Frodo and no Sam? Impossible. Centre of the story lost.
Merry and Pippin are just not made to die, they can't, wouldn't suit their role in the story.

So who's left again? Boromir 😬 and from the dramaturgic point of view, he simply is the perfect char to kill 😐
He's no funny character, you don't kill funny characters so early. His role is not the absolute centre of everything, yet controversial and important, rising problems with his death, but problems of a sort that support following conflicts in a very positive way, giving room for them but not forcing them into a certain direction. He's one of those that take a while until you begin to like them and realize how essential and still mysterious or fascinating they are, where you understand that his death only fulfilled his life and made it what it is. He's a honourable, proud, faithful person, overcoming all this in his last minutes and still perfectioning it. He has the most complex character development, but it all leads to his end up from the beginning, in an unpredictable but inevitable way - his whole role would have had to be remodelled in a very different way if he didn't die. He's the only one in the fellowship who could give his life for his friends without being cliché-ish and kitschy.
And of course his death solves several problems in a very natural way...

But it's still cruel cry weep

*still votes for Boromir*

👽 I wanted frodo to die so much that I chanted for shelob just because he is a whining weak fool who hasn't got a violent or strong bone in his body, but no boromir died instead a guy who killed at least eleven uraks with three arrows in him, enough said.

Is violent physical strength the only strength?

How can you decide on someone else to die. Its impossible, there is no other way, Boromir had to die 🙁 So I'm afaid I will have to vote for him.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

i don't want any of them to die cry
no! don't kill frodo! or legolas! or gimli or agagorn or sam! no no no don't do it! fear
*remembers that the books have already been written* 😮

FRODO MUST DIE!

Lots of people seem to want Frodo to die.😐

But after reading exa's post it seems like Boromir IS the only member of the fellowhip that should die in the story.
And he does seem like the most obvious choice. And no doubt if any of the other characters died...it would change the rest of the story dramaticly.

But perhaps it is the TIMING of the deaths that would choose wheter it be fitting or not.

True that Gimli's death at Amon Hen would seem like an unwanted character...easily exited to make room for more 'important' characters. But what if he had died at the black gate instead?

But at the TIME...Amon Hen, at the end of the Fellowship of the Ring, Boromir is the only choice.

Had Merry been killed...the orcs might have taken SAM and pippen. Leaving Frodo to defend for himself. And even altering the paths of Rohan -Theoden, and Eowyn.

Had Aragorn been killed, Merry and Pippen would have been abondoned to torment and death, leaving legolas and gimli...following frodo, or just going back to their own lands.

But everything happened for a reason. and if any of these events were altered or changed, the outcome and ending would be very different.

The lives and even deaths of each character, are what drives the story of the 3rd age.
