i've been trying to follow this thread for a while now. i guess i have to admit that minimods probably ARE a necessity. it's unfortunate though because it seems like a problem that can be self monitored if people on the forum can just be a little mature. i've had a couple . . . heated debates in my short time here, but i've tried to handle them with some respect. i've MOSTLY succeeded, and even the time i didn't do a particularly ideal job, i pm'd and tried to set things right. (pm's are not used enough around here, by the way.) i'm not convinced the idea of having 'spies' is going to be all that effective as a deterrent, but i can't really see an alternative.
i see many of the same faces in here all the time, and even a relative unsalted like me has a decent idea of who does and who doesn't know their stuff. those who've been here longer have an even better idea. i guess what i'm saying is i have an idea what to expect from a lot of the folks round here. most are good people, intelligent, and conduct themselves well in the spirit of the forum. unlike some, i am NOT a veteran of these forums and so had to learn some things as i went along. i consider myself pretty knowledgeable with this material, and so am not wholly behind the idea of a thread to post ratio - if you don't trust newbies to post threads, why trust them to make intelligent responses, responses that could lead to flames? the posting of threads is not something i consider much of an issue (people don't respond, thread goes away) - the name calling, spamming et al., now that's a bit annoying and is what ruins the forum and chases people off. so yes to the minimods but choosing them will not be easy. easier maybe to simply refuse to be baited and walk away when we start to lose it?

But.........every forum needs its forum monkey's they make it fun, the exteme characters make it rock, like mercilous who started this thread etc

ii think the biggest problem here is people fighting. like its not everyone and i myself try to avoid confrontation w/ others, but it seems as though some people naturally don't like someone and try to get into an arguement with them. or the reason they are here is to fight w/ others. i think this is a major problem here, not sure what you guys think though. it even says no member bashing in the rules and yet it happens all the time here. like even if someone gets a character mixed up or something people call them stupid and stuff like that and i think that thats what one of the problems is

thats cos everybody has a favourite character, one that they will defend if they feel someone is being ignorant to what they percieve as the truth...
i think we've all done it at one point...
