Many viruses mutilate. SIV mutilated to HIV in humans, however you still cannot get HIV from animals.

i read the same. i believe the theory is that people originally contracted the virus by eating monkey brains. the most efficiant way to get a virus from a host might i add

hmmm... thats a plausible way to contract it. I never thought of that, and eating monkey brains back in the day was common in that part of the country by the natives was it not?
