One thing I've noticed, trying to make new friends is awkward and complicated, friends just sort of happen organically, people gravitate toward you and are drawn in by your personality, humor and attractiveness. The other way is to be thrown in together like School or a Job or the Military where having a pal gets you through.

Thats why a lot of people differentiate between friends and work friends.
