I get this from my experience in high school not so long ago. There is a culture of dumb in my school. I remember in History there was me and 2 guys who always answered the questions. A lot of the class goes either I don't know! or I forgot my home work or they saw the answer but are shy!

That's what it's like over here too.
Because the idiots are usually the popular assholes, anyone that shows to know more than them (ie everyone) gets a dirty look.
If you want to be popular, you have make sacrifices with your brain. Sad fact. Be smart, be hated. Be dumb, be liked.
