I feel that Revan and Malak were far more than a master and apprentice dynamic, they were that of best friends. Their entire relationship is a deterioration of their friendship, as it shifted from them being equals to that of one enslaving the other. This then bred anger, jealousy, and contempt in Malek which further devoured their bonds of friendship.
Ultimately I feel their relationship was the most significant, as it encompassed so much more than just a master and apprentice dynamic. It was a manifestation of realistic human friendship, and how a shift in balance between two individuals can entirely destroy that friendship.
