Because when you write in txt speak or l33t it makes it harder for everyone else to read. It's called courtesy.

They say it's quicker than typing correctly when, in fact, it takes them longer because they're spending too much time thinking of how to spell their words with the minimum number of letters while still keeping the word understandable.

It's like reading a paragraph full of customized license plates...
