We will always have a difficult time finding a descent candidate as long as we have a two party system. As it is now, this country is run by corporations and special inrests. They have the luxury of wanting something done, and simply buying the candidate that hasn't been bought by another company that wants the opposite. When this country takes into consideration the fact that a third, fourth even fifth political party is possible...even beneficial. There doesn't have to be only two points of view.

Thank you for taking the time to lucidly explain your position on the issues and eloquently presenting your grasp of current affairs.
However, I still don't have a single clue what you are saying.
Typical view of someone who has no grasp of politics.
People do vote outside of their parties. I know several people who usually vote Republican that voted for Kerry, and vice-versa.
Personally I think that if someone votes purely based on what party the candidate is, they're an idiot. Figure out the candidate's stance on issue you believe in and vote based on that.
1. Sign the kyoto treaty
2. Free those prisoners on Cuba
3. Stop the new laws that limit Americans their freedoms
4. Allow gays to get married
5. Stop listening to the bible to lead a country
6. Stay in Iraq (i'm anti war but leaving now will only make it worse) for as long as Iraq asks
7. Be nicer to China its the US its best chance for a future
8. Stop covering Israel its ass
9. Stop saying "God bless us"
10. Stop saying things like "Your either with us or against us" There is no black or white only grey
11. Stop pretending the US is all that matters in the world
12. Look after more then just the christians in your country
13. Spend more money on US education and make sure that everybody can get it
14. Spend more money on Healthcare and make sure that everybody can get it
15. Restrict the gun laws to certain people only
16. Make people have tests before they buy guns, register guns, and register munition. (will stop thousands of murders)
17. Stop lying in your history books
18. Make sure that the people actually hear two sides
19. Try to make a change in the two party system (it sucks seriously)
Thats about all i can think of for now, but i'm sure i could figure out more if i'd take the time

I don't think I said it was the worst thing I could imagine. I think the question was why is there no descent candidates. I can think of a lot worse things that are going on in this country. Also, I may not be understanding your post, but my point WAS that the two party standard(it's not written into the constitution that there must be only two parties) should be changed.
And I think you're missing my point. When there are only two parties that means there is ONLY ROOM FOR TWO POINTS OF VIEW IN THE POLITICAL ARENA. There is so much middle ground to be covered. Take social security for an example. Right now there is a huge debate over whether or not to privatize it or not. There isn't another point of view, no other plan, no other solution to the problem. Maybe there is a third option that no one is thinking of or talking about. The country gets caught up in hating the point of view of the other guy, that they never get anywhere. President after president, year after year...things never really change. And this president, who originally ran as a president that would bring everyone together has done more to divide this country than any other president. Like Bill Maher said: "When did this country become Utah?" I really do hope there is a huge backlash on the conservative Christian Right. I hope they pull Jerry Fallwell off his fat ass and drag him into the streets and burn him alive.
I know that last part was irrelevent...I just wanted to say it.
