Seems like a good idea to me, as the percentage of people who smoke has decreased, and so the percentage of travelers who object to smoking increases on airplanes. Besides that there is the safety-issue and the extra accommodations a airline company has to install on the planes to make smoking possible without it irritating other passengers.
And finally, I doubt the passengers that wish to light up a few during their plane ride suddenly will take the bus when smoking gets prohibited on planes. They rather suffer some shivers due to a lack of nicotine instead of choosing a more time-consuming and less comfortable means of travel.
Well you are kind of half right there.
The truth is it depends how you look at this. From the customers point of view it was in fact a bad idea to stop smoking on planes. Now bear with me cause I know that sounds stupid... OK so when people were allowed to smoke on planes the air in the plane always had to be clean being pumped out, But now that smoking is banned on planes the Airlines can just reuse the air that is being breathed in and out by us. This means that It is a lot cheaper* for the Airline but for us customers the air was in fact cleaner when people smoked on planes...
*This now from the point of the Airlines.. It is good for them as they save money by reusing air rather than pumping fresh air in all the time.
Kind of weird huh... we were better of when people were smoking which would normally do use harm.
That does makes sense! It's a tremendously smart move by the airline companies, they can wave false promises of cleaner air aboard planes in the faces of customers as they banned smoking (drawing more of them) while they simultaneously cut down on the expenses they used to invest in filters and airco. And like anyone will smell the difference, most of them will be pleased enough by the smoke-free atmosphere in the plane to withhold them from giving the whole scenario a second thought.
A very interesting Q by you once again T.M.!
