Sodom and Gomorra. These cities were involved a conflict out of jealousy, because of property, wealth or something the likes of that, if I'm not mistaken. God witnessed it and feared they would influence all of his creations with their selfish behaviour so he dicided to 'strike down with great vengeance and furious anger' and fry all their asses.

No, that would be what the current 'christian' leaders made of that event, to have good example of just how wrong those facts are. I must regret to inform you that book is still on my 'read this stuff - list' so I can not fully comply. But my first guess would be that the book questions God's intentions with this world. That a miss for sure, but can't help aiming at you
