Yes, it's real all right. This guy Ron Patrick wanted to build the wildest legal street racer, so he hooked up his beetle with a 1350 HP jet-engine.
The original engine is still in it and operational, making it a hybrid car and legal to drive on designated tracks!
The man has no idea how fast it can really go, he chickened out at 240 Kmh / 150 Mph. Pushing the jet to the max will probably result in a take-off+crash.

I don't know if this will qualify, but the highest temperature on Earth was created by nuclear fusion bombs. I'm not sure if they've got exact measurements of the actual temperatures of those, so it might not really be a factual recording. It sure as hell was hot!
