Have had just the same! The girl to who I have been the most in love with ever is now my very best friend, but nothing 'more'. She lives at the other end of the country, which is quite an obstacle in a relationship and also was afraid of the possibility that a lovers relationship could crash and destroy our friendship forever. And we also have our differences.
So we decided to stick to being best friends, although it took me a long time to really accept that...
