something may happen to him in episode three because between epidose 2 and 4 the little green god turned into a crazy walking bogie!
i mean when he first encountered luke in ANH his behaviour was so out of character when you look at him in ep's 1&2.
Either he had been hittin the juice hard or he was testing lukes patience!

Well, the latter IS true.

But it may be that whilst Yoda lives for centuries, he may feel the effects of terminal old age at the same rate as a human. 20 years can make a big difference between, say, 60 and 80 for a man, and so those two decades may have had a great effect on him.

A friend of mine is convinced that he was high or something 😛

...but I agree with Ush. Yoda makes it plainfully clear that he doesn't think that Luke has the patience to complete the training, and tries at every point to show Luke what and when he's doing things wrong.

He wasn't actually insane, it was just an act he put on to test Luke

No, he wasn't old or senile, he was perfectly in control, as he reveals when he drops the act later on. He was testing Luke in order to see if he was ready for the training.

yoda and sidious have a little saber battle in episode 3. this makes yoda run from the fight do to a draw.

this is why yoda ( never underestimate the powers of the emporer) line is said to luke in return of the jedi.
