Well, it certainly gives you something to think about, Vardalain.

"It's very simple," says Gorlim. "There's nothing specified in the Prophecy about how all of this has to work. Many assumed Arvedui's 'task; was to re-unite the split Kingdoms for Arnor and Gondor back into one. But so long as any Human Kingdom is re-made into something greater, then Arvedui can fulfil the terms of the Prophecy and come out on top.
"Arnor itself has long been divided into 3. It is long past the time that suich damage should be undone. Rhudaur will have to wait; it has been owned by the Dunl;endings for many centuries. But Cardolan... Cardolan is still held by free men, though they are distracted and divided. They need one leader to bring them together. Arvedui seeks to be that man.
"His plan now ot to re-create Arnor. He shall unify Arthedain and Cardolan, to remake that which was broken by the errors of the past. And with his new nation, he shall have a weaponw ith which to destroy Angmar."
Gorlim stands.
"Trouble is, no-one in Cardolan wants to do it. They have no time for us, all caught up in their petty little agendas. That's what we were doing at Baranar- he was the only Lord who would actually listen. But it didn't go as planned, as you know. Baranar has signed up to our plan, but then he had little choice; the attack on his Fortress left him too weak to do anything other than turn to our aid, and the other Cardolani Lords simply see him as having been swallowed by us out of necessity. Not the inspiring example it was meant to be."
Well, feel free to take a look at the map.

"That's very simple indeed," says Gorlim, "and it is the reason Arvedui has made Arthedain, and Fornost, such an open realm to outsiders. Arvedui wants to set examples about co-operation. He's particularly keen on Baranar because you Elves came- not because he thinks the Elves will intervene, but because he rather liked the idea of, at that crucial time in his plans, people from totally differing backgrounds stood together against the forces of darkness.
"That's what Arvedui wants. People from all backgrounds, all realms. Dunadain, common men, Northmen. Elves. Dwarves. Even Halflings. He invites them all here- he is looking for those who will stand by him in his fight, and show the whole of Middle-Earth what can be achieved by co-operation."

OOC: Did the orcs go through the Shire? It would be incredibly easy for them, since the Shire would be a incredibly open corridor with many places to hide nad very few guards.
Two problems with that.
First of all, the Shire is part of Arthedain, and is defended as the rest of it is.
Secondly, the Orcs and Dunlendings are to the east and North. The Shire is to the West, and further West than that are the Grey Havens. It;s too far out for the Orcs.
(It might also be pointed out that the Hobbits would probably have noticed)

Could they've gone through Cardolan?
