Aha....SW books twice in a row! 😛
ON-TOPIC: Well, I must say, I really enjoyed Stover's style of writing.
I like how he fleshed out the characters, (especially some of the lesser or at least lesser-developed characters). I was just a tad upset that neither Kashyyyk nor Chewbacca were mentioned, but it is forgiveable.
I must say, being a person who's read the ILLUSTRATED SCREENPLAY, the dialogue between Palpatine/Sidious, Mace, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto was quite better and more dramatic than what will appear in the movie.
I particularily enjoyed the last chapters of the book, especially when it went into the point-of-view of Darth Vader on page 416. I actually shed a tear when I set the book down.
Star Wars in general has been a part of my life since I was born, back in '77. That's 28 years for me this July, and to think that it's ending in 17 days....this is both the movie and the book to go out on.
Overall, I liked this book. But my opinion is most likely based on the fact that I love Star Wars and have loved it my entire life. Some of the writing got a tad repetitive, (no pun intended), but it was quite well written. The only thing that turned me off both the book and the author was a comment Stover gave to Reuters, I believe, along the lines that this book would make him a household and famous name. Something about it topping lists, which it really hasn't....
But all in all, if I were to give the book a rating out of 10, I would give it: a 9.5. A great effort, and a must have for all SW fans, but that comment he made gets to me. 😉
