its from cyclops' huge revelation in astonishing x-men...

So, it turns out that cyclops has been able to control his powers all along, but as a child he chose not to, forcing him to maintain control at all times, and it enabled him to have at least some control no matter how bad his life got... and not even xavier knew about this decision he made...
