First, he didnt nessicarily outsmart Galactus, rather he stole his power.
Second, I never said he was a bad character because he beats guys like Superboy. Rather, people dont like him because thats all he is really. There isnt any real defining personality to him, just the ability to beat people up.
Same reason people hate Pre-Crisis Supes

Grant Morrison is writing PC Superman right now in the All Star line. Ironically enough, it's a top seller.
