No, you can be a fan of multiple things. lol

The "real fan" thing is just something some people try to use as an excuse because they like the OT better. They think that makes them "die hards" or whatever. I love the OT, but have differing opinions in the sense that I like the PT better. Sadly, some people have no respect for others opinions.

That I agree with.

I think is more about recognizing the differences between Apples and Oranges. Is not so much about people's opinions is more about diffences in observations. For example, in the Batman forum we always have issues and discussions about who's the better Batman: Keaton or Bale. People who picked Keaton always agree that BB was a better film. However, when asked who was the better Batman...they pick Keaton...when other people pick Bale...they agree Begins was better than the any of the previous films. Strange, isn't it?

I don't believe that there is such thing as "real fan". I do believe that there are "Veteran" fans. Who have followed their favorite stories for years. And have acquire an extensive knowledge of their favorite fiction characters. I consider myself a "veteran" Batman fan. And I did pick Bale as the best Batman.

Catching my drift? 😉

Sith Master, it's not that we don't respect others opinions...it's more we don't respect Preysin's 'Prequel Jihad' that he's going with in here...

"Prequel Jihad" Oh man! Capt. you're the best. 😂

I try my best. 😊

Seriously, though, the true fan thing is a load of bull...I never heard it on here until Preysin said it and started ranting about how shitty the OT was.

THAT opinion I do not respect. As long as the person who likes PT over OT still likes the OT as well, I'll respect.

Preysin just gets a kick in the pants.

IMO you can only consider yourself a die-hard fan if you love both the OT and the PT...I don't say people aren't real fans if they don't like the whole saga, but it puts them on another level of what kind of fan you are.

Yes... Real fan should love (almost) anything related to SW.

Yeeeeah...but that doesn't mean anything related to SW is good.

A lot of people don't wanna make the distinction between what they like and what they think is in fact good...'cause that could mean it's possible you like something that might in fact suck, heaven forbid!

Just because you like something does NOT mean it's good.

Is ESB a great film?...heck yeah...on so many levels!

Is AOTC a bad film?...heck yeah...on so many levels!

Do I love it to death? Absolutely.

You'll note that the only one who pulled the "true fan" thing was Preysin with his whole "you're not a true fan if you don't like the PT better!" thing he's so hung up on.

I love the PT. But I do not believe in any stretch of the imagination that they are better than the OT.

No offence JP, I don't say you are a real fan, but do you consider yourself a die-hard fan? (I'm not saying I am...) You have fans who never see the daylight cause they spent hours reading books...who listen to the music everyday (and you can discover a lot from the music, one was able to figure almost the whole film just listening to the soundtrack before he saw the film). They might be giant nerds lol who do nothing then devote their lives to SW, but they are die-hard fans.
And like I said I never claimed I'm one and I didn't say you or I aren't real fans.

RotS for me. I just like it better, and I've practically memorized the entire movie. Such is how my time is spent. *sigh*

I think we should execute those who show no respect for other people's opinions.

I could smell this bullshit coming. "It's my opinion, therefore I can be a complete dumbass and no one will care!"

"IMO" is the idiot shield. Hitler could hide behind "IMO".

Although some may find this difficult to believe, not every has the same likes and dislikes. Shocking isn't it? I think the PT is better than the OT.

Care listing a few reasons why? A respected opinion is always supported by facts. Obviously, some things are up to interpretation and cannot be proven with facts. But not all. Not most.

Yet others slam people like me and say that we should be shot. You guys think you're "true fans" just because you like the OT better? Then only you're opinions matter doesn't it, because you're just too damn cool for everyone else here.

XD. I'm sorry if you feel offended by the executed remark, but I was only joking. And who ever mentioned anything about being "true" fans? We're all true fans. But if you think the PT is the better, list reaons why and I'll forward to arguing them.

I'm just a huge fan of the original trilogy. They never get old. Empire Strikes Back remains to this day as my all time favourite movie.

Not a fan of the prequels. They each get worse everytime I watch them. Attack Of The Clones depresses me and everytime I watch it, I die a little inside.

That's the best I can sum it up, in a nutshell.

Don't care if I'm classed as a Star Wars fan, it's not something I want to wear as a badge, nor will it serve to any advantage whatsoever in my life to be classed as one. It's petty bickerring over pointless shit.

And yes, it is hard to respect peoples opinions when they don't give valid reasons. This is a fact of life. You can't go and ask for a payrise saying "I deserve a payrise IMO".

*raises flame shield*

"Care listing a few reasons why? A respected opinion is always supported by facts. Obviously, some things are up to interpretation and cannot be proven with facts. But not all. Not most."

I've already said a million times on this forum why I like the prequels better. I'll sum it up again. The visuals and the story of the Prequels are what I like. Are the prequels more childish than the OT, of course they are. But I don't care, I still love it.

Secondly, I like the cast better. Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen (everyone hates the guy but me) did a great job. The cast of the OT also did a great job, but I just like the new guys better.
I like Digital Yoda better. He has more expression in his face than the puppet. I like the lightsaber fights better. Why? They were faster and more entertaining. It's just one of those things.

This could also be another reason. See, I'm only 17. I'm sure alot of you are my age as well, and I know there's others on here that lived the beginning of the saga in 1977.

Well, the big hype for me was going to see Star Wars Episode 1 in 1999 back when I was in the 5th grade. When you're a kid, you get all into those posters that have new characters with the neat designs on their face. When you're a kid, things just don't matter as much. I've been able to hold onto that experience. We bought Darth Maul lightsabers and fought with them out in the backyard. 3 years later, a new edition was released. I remember chilling with my friends all day in line back in 2002, waiting so long for a ticket to Episode II. I loved that movie as well. Now, I remember almost a year ago, an even bigger line all waiting to see the midnight viewing of Episode III. I never got to do this back in 77 for the obvious reason. So for me, the overall experience of getting to live these movies, waiting in line all day just to see them is something I'll always remember, and it definitely helped to enhance my liking of them too. The PT is a bit different from the OT, but I appreciate that. It would get boring to watch the same ol' thing after a while in my opinion.

Honestly, I have no disagreement with those reasons. This could have been alot cleaner if you said that in your first post. Sorry if I came off to be a bit hostile. I am an OT fanboy.

isnt there a thread on this already

That's cool. I always try and place myself in the position of someone exactly your age growing up with these films...and realizaing (unlike most people here) that Lucas is perpetualy young at heart, and translates that into his filmaking.

If I was your age I'd be a Star Wars FREAK...and I totally understand why you love the PT films...doesn't mean they're great films though...and I think you might learn that with experience.

Good on ya.

ANH is getting shafted...

Its a shame.

This will sound strange, but here's another way I look at things.

Deep down, I know that Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars film. When you look at the characters, story, and atmosphere to that movie it is by far the best put together film of the 6. However, does that neccessarily mean it's my favorite? Not really. It's like saying the Pittsburgh Steelers were the best team in the NFL this year, but they're not my favorite team. Yes, comparing movies to sports is 2 totally different things, but you get what I'm saying. Reason being, is that I find Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith more fun to watch. Sure the story is not as mature or developed, and it's alot more childish, but to me it's just more fun. Attack of the Clones especially has a very childish like plot. But I don't know, because there's just always something about that film when I watch that I absolutely love.

I agree with you that this would have sounder much cleaner had I stated this in the first place. I take responsibility for that and apologize.
I love the OT as well. Just have slightly a different way of looking at things.

Yep, that's exactly where I'm coming from. 🙂 If I were born back then and lived through the expereince, I would probably be more of an OT fan, even though I love the movies dearly already.
