That's not true, even now—there have been numerous people arrested under ridiculous circumstances, given horribly biased trials, and thrown in jail, or worse.
The ID card is a little scary, but frankly the gun thing isn't a big concern to me. I enjoy going to the range occasionally, but there are countries that have similarly strict gun legislation where there is considerably less gun violence. I don't understand how this is such a big deal... Like I said, they've always arrested people the government didn't like for doing basically nothing, they've always been capable of monitoring our every move, and it won't change much if they have stricter gun laws. Jesus.
