Okay, I think this is right...but I'd still do it again yourself to check I haven't made a mistake: -
It sounds like the trick is that any new line you add has to cross 3 existing lines, no more or no less. The original drawing gave the following results: -
4 lines gave 6 cross over points, 11 regions (8 open, 3 closed)
I then added a line at a time to see what happened: -
5 lines gave 9 cross over points, 15 regions (10 open, 5 closed)
6 lines gave 12 cross over points, 19 regions (12 open, 7 closed)
7 lines gave 15 cross over points, 23 regions (14 open, 9 closed)
See the pattern?
If I'm right, then you should get...
20 lines will give 54 cross over points, 75 regions (40 open, 35 closed)
Or something like that. 😕

add 16 more lines crosing the structue count how many are closed have no open sides and how many are open, easy
