Star Wars: Rogue Force
Chapter 3
Darth Vader, dark lord of the Sith, stood at one of the many forward viewports on the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer Executor, staring out at the asteroid field that surrounded them. His heavy mechanical breathing sending shivers down the spine of nearest ships crew members.
Vader turned to face the command walkway between to two crew pits, his cape fluttered as he walked down to the command station at the rear of the bridge.
Piett approached, coming to a halt at the foot of the walkway, standing military straight. As Vader stepped off the walkway he bowed. "My lord."
Vader's breath made Piett only slightly nervous as he fell into step after the Sith. "What is it, Admiral?" Came the deeply modulated, and almost mechanical voice. It betrayed no emotion.
Piett spoke briskly and clearly. "The Emperor commands you to make contact with him."
Piett noticed Vader straighten slightly. "Move the ship out of the asteroid field so that we can send a clear transmission."
Piett nodded. "Yes, my lord." The Admiral turned to issue the order as Vader strode of the bridge.

Vader stepped onto the circular kneeling platform, his breathing in a slow steady, almost uniform, pace. The raised ring lit up as he stood on it and kneeled, his masked head bowed.
Slowly he raised his head to the flickering blue hued holo of the Emperor's cloaked and wrinkled face. "What is thy bidding, my master?" Vader asked in his bio-mechanical tones.
The Emperor looked down on his apprentis. "There is a great disturbance in the Force." He began, his malice clearly audiable in his voice.
"I have felt it." Vader replied.
"We have a new enemy, the young Rebel who destroyed the Death Star. I have no doubt that this boy is the offspring of..." the Emperor paused, letting Vader mentally prepare for what he was about to say "...Anakin Skywalker." Darth Sideous glared down on Vader, studying him, looking for a reaction. He got one, a noticable ripple in the Force.
Vader's breathing also quickened slightly. "How is that possible?"
The Emperor's yellow eyes stared unblinkingly at Vader, his voice was full of disdain when he spoke: "Search your feelings, lord Vader, you will know it to be true." The Emperor waited till his apprentis was ready before continuing, letting the dark lord gather his thoughts. "He could destroy us."
Vader caught a glimmer of Padmé in his mind and he quickly looked up at the Emperor with something not quiet distaste, but aprehention. "He is just a boy, Obi-Wan can no-longer teach him."
Sideous raised an eyebrow, and mentally smiled. This is exactly what he had wanted, Vader felt regret and perhaps anger that he had not know of his child's birth. "The son of Skywalker must not become a Jedi."
Vader spoke up. "If he could be turned, he would become a powerful ally."
"Yes," the Emperor said with a sadistic grin, "he would be a great asset. Can it be done?"
For once Vader felt he had been in control on the conversation, but it was in fact the Emperor who had played him. "He will join us or die, my master."
The Emperor was pleased and his holo visage flickered and dissolved into thin air.

"Lord Vader." Piett mouthed more than said. "We have an urgent transmission from the Star Destroyer Alligence." He approached, trying to catch his breath. "They are in persuit of part of the Rebel transport fleet that escaped our blockade around Hoth and are attempting to flee through the asteroid field."
Vader turned to face Piett. "Well?" He had far more important details to attend to.
"Sensor readings from the Alliegiance have identified three Gallofree Yards medium transports, two Corellian Corvett's, and a class two battle frigate. All of these ships escaped our blockade, escourted by eight snubfighters; six X-wing class, and two Y-wing."
The Sith lord looked a little distant, but addressed the Admiral. "Inform the Captain of the Allegiance to capture these Rebels, they will have information which we can use to our advantage."
"Immediatly, my lord." Piett turned to head for the bridge, but stopped when Vader hadn't himself moved.
"And Admiral, if they shall resist, and the Allegiance fails in their capture, they are to be terminated." Vader's voice chilled Piett, causing the hairs on the back of his neck to stand on end.
Piett tried to hide his discomfor with a slight smile "Of course, lord Vader. I shall inform them at-"
"No Admiral, you do not understand. If the Allegiance shall not suceed in these orders, the entire crew will be killed. Do not bother me with such a simple matter again, or I will feed you to a Sarlacc."
Piett gulped, his hands shook as he bowed. "Y- yes, my lord."
Darth Vader turned and walked away, leaving Piett where he stood. The Admiral gathered his rattled wits and quickly marched to the bridge.

On the far side of the asteroid field, temporarily out of Vader's wrath, Captain Loran Rek stood on the bridge of the Star Destroyer Allegiance, surveying the asteroids out ahead of the mighty war ship. An aide stepped to his side and awaited to be acknowledged.
Loran turned. "Yes Ensign?" He asked.
Relief swept across the aides face, he had expected to be made to wait. "Captain Rek, we have recieved a transmission from the Executor, a priorty one message for you."
Loran nodded. "I'll take it there." He indicated the holo-net reciever at the rear of the bridge. "Patch it through."
"Yes, sir." The Ensign saluted and went over to the communication station.
The Captain positioned himself in front of the holo pod and tugged at the hem of his uniform to straighten it. Then a lifesized hologram of Admiral Piett flickered into place. The Captain bowed. "Admiral."
"Captain Rek, your orders come directly from lord Vader, you are to capture the Rebels, and destroy any that resist." Piett stated solemly.
Loran nodded. "It will be done, Admiral."
Piett shook his head. "Captain, if you fail, lord Vader had ordered you and the enire crew off your ship to be executed. I trust you will not, but I have given you all the warning I can. Your life is in your hands Captain. Piett out." The image disappeared.
Loran stood still for a moment, weighing his options, then turned to face the bridge. "Helm; bring us to combat speed, I want those Rebels now! Weapons; charge all ion cannons and ready all tractor beam emitters. Lieutenant Mannon, launch fighters and have them spread out ahead of us." The Captain ordered is bridge crew. "Execute."
The bridge suddenly was awash in a brief flash of green white as the turbo lasers opened up to clear, the Destroyer, a path through the field. Mannon spoke as an asteroid exploded, sending chunks of super-heated space rock out of their path. "Sir, TIE's are ready for launch."
"Launch now. Opinions Lieutenant?"
Mannon looked up from his station, locking eyes with his commanding officer. "Launching now, sir. Opinon; since their ships are smaller than a Star Destroyer, they will not be hindered as much by this field as we will be. Our fighters should be used to delay them."
"A sound tactic. Put it to good use." Loran smiled as more flashes filled the artificial horizion. "What is the status of our other Star Destroyers?"
An officer at the communications console turned around. "The Constrainer has taken some damage to its outter hull but it's shields are holding, Abolisher has reported minimal damage to its shielding."
"Good, tell Captain-"
"Captain! We have the Rebel ships on sensors... wait... I think I have their... yes, they are moving closer to the asteroids to avoid the larger debris clusters." Came a voice from the crewpit.
Another voice joined in. "Confirmed. Our pilots are reporting the same and are in persuit. Requesting permision to engage?"
Captain Rek nodded. "Permission granted, keep them busy, do not let them exit the asteroid field, box them in."
"Sir!" Came the brisk reply.
As Loran turned to speak with Mannon again the bridge was suddenly bathed in orange light. The the ship shuddered. Klaxons started blaring. "Report! Have we been hit."
The sensor officer checked his console. "Negative, it was a shockwave..."
"Shockwave? Clari-" as the Captain looked to the viewports he saw the cause, and effect. "-fy." He watched the Constrainer as it burned in two halfs, seperated from an impact at mid-keel. "Contact them. Helm, do not alter course!"
He got two acknowledgements.
