To explain it more simply in star wars ways its like this in clone wars obi-wan explains the trails anakin went threw during the war so they let him forego the trials much like Luke
Luke's Jedi Trials
- trial of skill when he destroyed the death star.
- trial of flesh when vader sliced off his right hand
- trail of the courage when he went to face vader/ his father for the final time
- trail of spirit even when he was tempted buy the dark lord of the sith sidious, but still refused to turn to the dark side.
And these are lukes trails since EU is not really counted in the movies.
Nah you only have to make a lightsaber when you become a jedi master, like obi-wan he just recovered his lightsaber from that shaft in episode 1 and used it when he became a jedi knight , but like luke an anakin they had to make new ones when they became jedi knights. and most padawans had to make news 1 2 cause they were either lost or destroyed during the clone wars

actually obi-wan didn't recover his sabre from Naboo. he buiilt a new one between 1 and 2. its the same design but it is a bit longer and thinner.
for the matter of the trials... i suggest reading Clone Wars: Jedi Trial

Does anyone know what the trials is like or anything about it?
Imperial Gaurds also have to face trials before they are selected , they each face each other in a number of grueling events until two remain . This two then face Vader and the survivor gets to be Supreme Gaurd (saw this in a comic called Crimson Empire .... bloody spectacular it was too....).
