No, they're not that different. Not totally similar obviously, but Sepultura are one of the very few bands who can be compared to Metallica.

Sepultura were actually a thrash metal band, and yes, they were better than Metallica. Chaos AD and Arise are two of the best five metal albums ever. Max was, and is (now that Soulfly have finally got their act together) the god of heavy metal.
