"Then why were they listed as tractor parts? They were coils used for military-grade hovercraft!"

"Yeah. I know that, genius! But there is no money in smuggling tractor parts, is there? Whilst resonating coils like that are taxed to buggery by the Feds and we can double our wage packets by selling them to... discerning buyers."

"But here's the odd thing, buddy. All of those ships that you launched with 'generic parts' listed were hijacked by the Cult. The Cult doesn't need tractor parts, and they make deliberate attacks."

Xeth leans closer.

"I know who's been involved. It would have been Ryamore two years ago..."

"Who? Oh, so some of them get jacked by the pirates, so what? Not my fault. Enough of them get through to get the money in."

He honestly doesn't know what you are talking about, Xeth. You need to piece things together.

"I could shelter you in our headquarters on Uridian III, or with the department on Taloraan that I work for," Xeth says. "Honestly, I may be a renegade, but I'm still a Knight, through and through."

Meanwhile, more and more people are getting away!

"One of my men has connections with the Senate, would their word mean anything?" Xeth says. "Please, I would like to keep all of these people from scattering."

"Yeah, I am sure you want to ruin their livelihood! And this isn't one of your comfortable inner worlds. The Senate means bugger all out here."

I can't think of anything that would assure him. None of my connections are things he would care about.

"I don't want to ruin anyone's livelihood," Xeth says. "Why you think we are here to hurt anyone or ruin anything is beyond me."

"Would you accept a bribe?"

"Oh yeah, sure, Mr. 'Jedi' is just rolling in it, I am sure. And by catching them you will destroy them."
