yeah I thought it said that also at first but still even if you could talk you're way out of it the droid would still be there and correct us and I don't think you can mind trick droids they don't have minds!!!!!!!!!

Yes, but the plan is to tell the man that the droid is incorrect. Remember in the films, C-3PO (a droid!) treats R2-D2 like he knows nothing... That's even without the human assumption of superiority!
