SysFade

I've been having this problem lately. When I'm running Internet Explorer, it lags horribly, and goes into the "Not Respoding" state. This has only happened with Explorer so far, none of my games has been affected. However, I opened the Task Manager with the Applications tab on and when I.Explorer was loading, an unknown app called "SysFade" flickered up. It was but the work of a second, but I saw the name. I was worried that it might be spyware/adware/virus, but I'm not too sure.

Sysfade is part of the MS operating system. It has a reputation for being buggy and causing hangs and shutdown problems. It is not a virus. It works to do those fancy menu cascade effects in windows, and allows the system to make certain windows semi-transparent.

I've found out how to disable it courtesy of Google but...

(checks Control Panel)

...some very important things are missing. Like Display for instance. And Add/Remove Programs, and Add/Remove Software..

Oh dear god.

you have problem now evillaugh

Disabled it. Internet Explorer still incredibly unresponsive...

change to firefox, or some other browser.

reactivate SysFade and IE will work again

So far it is lag/bug-free, though I'm not sure how long that will last.

Now, I assume missing options from the Control Panel is a very bad thing....

So far Clovie's idea is working.

Tried yers's, didn't work.

Now to do something about the missing options in control panel...

Alright, how do you completely wipe the hard drive blank and reinstall everything from scratch?

As you can see, I am well and truly screwed.

maybe reinstall without cleaning the disc 😕 coz otherwise you'll loose all the data you have there.

and to get rid of EVERYTHING: format c.

What, do I just go in the C drive, highlight everything, and press delete?
