As was clearly stated by Lucasfilm in the first issue of Insider, canon can only be applied to the films, screenplays, scripts and radio dramas. And the last three are only 'semi-canon'.

EU products are 'official', but not canon. They occupy their own continuity.

But I think GL got some inspiartion for the new trilogy from a comic, it had Double edged lightsabers and Jedi starfighters
and it was made in '94,but I don't think he'll admit it.

He can take inspiration from whatever he wants, of course, but that doesn't make any of it canon. It just means he likes it.
