Ruggero Deodato to direct new version of Cannibal Holocaust 2

Italian director Ruggero Deodato, whose last horror picture was the rarely seen 1993 giallo THE WASHING MACHINE, has revealed that he is seeking to make a follow-up to his notorious 1980 splatter epic CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST.

“I want to do it—I have written two stories,” says the director, who notes that he will be busy until February shooting his new serial for Italian television. “One is a very metropolitan story, like CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST but set in Rome. The other is closer to the original, and set in the jungle. I hope that it will be possible to shoot it, but I don’t know. Just now in Italy, it is not easy to find financing.”

Thankfully, Deodato (who says he has “no idea” when the upcoming American HOLOCAUST DVD is slated to be released) confirms that if CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST 2 does forge ahead, there will be none of the cruelty toward wildlife that helped make the original film controversial. “No—I am finished with that, no more,” he says. “I was stupid to introduce animals.”

What do you think?...is this a good thing or a bad thing?

It would be great to see Deodato making a horror film again. But there is no way he could duplicate the cruelty of CH again. And even if he could with all these idiotic members of PETA and MPAA running wild his film would be boycotted and possibly banned. I think the guy has a great talent when it comes to gore. So defenetly a sequel would be of my high interest.

btw-there hasn't been any updates on the CH DVD Especial Edition. I'm keeping track of any news from Grindhouse Entertainment.

Deodato was speaking at the Festival of Fantastic Films in Manchester, England. They caught up with him and asked him about the sequel.

“It is set in the city and it is about how different everything is now. Once, in Rome, it was only Roman people, but today it is also Chinese, Indian, Bangladeshi, Russian, South American—it is mixed, just like in London. For Roman people, it is very strange, but this change is a good thing, I like it. You see, it is incredible to see one street that is all Chinese. It is just like BLADE RUNNER now—if you remember, in that film there are [parts of the city] that are all Chinese shops. So I wrote one story about this cultural change, and I hope that it is possible to shoot this movie. I call it CANNIBAL METROPOLITANA [possibly translated as CANNIBAL METROPOLIS].”

Be on the lookout for the new 2 Disc Special Edition of "Cannibal Holocaust" which is being released on October 25th. Apparently it will give you the option of watching the film with or without the animal violence.

i cant wait to see an actual official sequel to the legendary ch directed by the man himself rather then the shitty 3rd grade cannibal movies that have tried to pass themselves of as unofficial sequels...............oh and about the new 2 discer,i personally think anyone who veiws this film should watch in its entireity and not scimp on the animal violence scenes,to watch it without them would lessen the impact of the whole film rather considerably

I sure do.

I'd be really interested in it.

*may contain spoilers*

I seen the original today for the first time and I must say it's more of a blair witch type doco movie then anything.

I don't think it's that nasty except for the animal killings but the rape scene and the part where they make the guy eat the insides of the dead tribe man is just plain gross.

This is a true classic horror movie!

I'll watch this next one for sure!
