What happened to Yoda?!!

In The Revenge of the Sith, when Yoda enters Palpatine's office, he hits the guards with the force, then exchanges words with Sidious. All of a sudden, with what's apparent to me as an obvious preparation for attack, Sidious stretches out his gnarled fingers and releases a wave of force lightning, which somehow catches Yoda off guard, and a look of complete surprise washes over his face right before he is hit. Yoda's all wise, his force-lightning-deflection skills rock, so, WTF?!!!

Answer - dramatic effect, and showing that Sidious is powerful. Even Jedi masters can be caught "napping".

The Darkside of the Force was clouding his judgement.
