That you give something is nice, but when Americans start complaining they give to much they should look at the facts, they don't give all that much compared to other country's. So why the hell should we care about that? If they would give more then others I would agree, but right now I just can not and will not.

But all you're looking at is the GNP percentages. You're not even considering the whole dollar amount. We DO give more than others when compared with other countries, it's just a smaller percentage of OUR whole pie. The chart says it all. I will also mention the philanthropy of US corporations such as Microsoft which has pledged $100 billion to various charities and causes around the world Those donations are not counted in the amount the US contributes. It's not really the pissing contest you're trying to make it out to be.

Company's here aren't counted either now are they?

And again. 50 dollars for a normal kid is a lot of money, 150 dollars for a rich bussines man is absolutely nothing. The bussines man may give a 100 dollars more to charity, but I would appreciate the contribution of the child a lot more. At least he wants to give something, the rich bussinesman just wants to get rid of the charity organisation.

I believe US companies add an additional $34 billion to the total. How much do your businesses contribute? So, now the US is up to $52 billion a year, more than double all of the other countries combined. And for reference, that significantly increases the percentage per capita that the US contributes each year.

I am not complaining about the amount of money that the US contributes to the rest of the world. I am complaining about the criticism leveled at my country.

You would have alot more credibility if you would just once agree that the US gives more money in foreign aid than other countries in the world.

They do in total... Not per citizen, and I don't know how much the company's here give. Per Citizen maybe more maybe less. I don't know or care about that really.

And I'm not criticising the US... Just the people that say they pay to much, when you look at it compared to other country's its not all that much anymore. The one's with money and more people will always give more then others, but that doesn't mean they give more per citizen.

Its very simple to me, if any country spends more money on foreign aid per citizen then the US does then they have more rights to complain about the money they spend on foreign aid then US citizens do. Surprisingly enough however I have never seen a Non American complain about it. Or at least not as much as Americans are. It just annoys me.

Interesting. Who have you heard complain about foreign aid? I don't want to dispute you, I'm just interested. I have complaints about where the money goes and how it is used, but not the fact it is given.
Raising our percentage of output to Netherlandian ( 🙂 ) levels would put a severe strain on our economy, though. Economics is just too complicated to compare the two countries as apples and apples. We produce the most money, but we also spend more than we produce, so there are other factors to weigh before assuming that the US isn't as generous as other countries.

Nobody that I can remember here, but plenty of people on other forums... It just annoys the hell out of me. And it often (wrongfully so) makes me assume that every American that talks about it feels the same about it. Thats why I was talking about it so much...

So many Americans are so cocky, yet so clueless to the rest of the world. It's a wonderful country with a few major league assholes.

I love how we're still talking about the cost of the war.

That was the title of the post. PVS provided information about the US contributions to foreign aid. Based on his first post, the conversation has stayed on topic.
