What really amazes me is the shear ignorance displayed by some forumites around here. I refuse to believe it, but it actually looks as if some people believe Saddam Hussein had anything to do with the terrorist attack on the US on Sept 11 2001.
Now – that being said: Where did that delusion come from?
The jump to jokingly going on about “we should A-bomb” Iraq is utterly hysterical. No forumite here has ANY say in any war-decision to begin with. And what would nuking a poor nation accomplish?
Would it end what caused 9-11? Or be the best way to ensure a repetition?
I guess the Bush-administration is damn smart: It got the better part of the US believing there were weapons of mass-destruction in Iraq, and that Hussein was involved in 9-11. It sneaked the Patriot Act in through the back-door and is now gagging critical journalists.
A nation has been lied to, and people joke about nuclear bombs instead of protesting and demanding the liars be prosecuted.
1984 springs to mind… And also the latest Star Wars flick…

It would work well with criminals too.....subliminal messages...It would work well with everyone...peaceful messages...and from what I've heard the Gov. is experimenting with it......Well as long as it doesn't lull everyone into a comatose state where the government can just do what ever they want to us and us not caring....
Don't want to sit around in pubs and not caring about reality because of mind control...But if you think about it...It might just be our best chance for peace.

And yes...we always get asked to fight other battles with them....and yes, if there is nothing in it for the US then the government declines...usually, and that's too bad...But we're always asked.

The Soviet Union offered to destroy all nukes in 1986 during a summit in Iceland, Reagan refused, in 1989 the offer was repeated. Gorbatsjov wanted to continue with destroying the Nukes with or without America but of course he was kicked out of office before he could really do it and the entire thing failed. I would rather go back in time and change Reagan his mind then go back in time and convince the western nations to attack Russia. An attack that was doomed to fail.

Russia was never ever conquered from the west, from the east only one succeeded and he immediately conquered most of Asia and Europe with it, and Russia couldn't even be called Russia back then.
The huge amounts of land would be a problem but like shown during WWII Russia would have no problem retreating to a more centralized location and destroying everything as they were retreating. Giving the Allies a very hard time getting even near Moscow.
The US was the only country that could still fight and it was busy enough with Japan an enemy like Russia would a huge problem. The troop size in Europe would not be big enough to stop the Russian machine who steamrolled across eastern europe killing I believe 75 to 90% of the German army's. The allies killed the other 10% to 25%. I have no reason to believe Russia couldn't steamroll through an already destroyed country as well. Leaving England and the American forces there. Meaning Europe would have been occupied for a very long time, as soon as Russia would have organised its army's and started its attack. Which granted would probably take some time.
Nukes were not finished yet, and the plans would be stolen very quickly.
An attack from Asia would be impossible as long as Japan would still play a part, and Stalin would have allied himself with Japan in order to save his country, Russia and Japan together could have delayed American victory in the Pacific for a very long time. Possibly even prevent it, after which Russia would just declare war on Japan like they did with every other country.
The troop size of Russia and the quality of their weapons at that time was better then that of the US. The only thing the US had was more research laboratory's, all Russia had were a few concentration camps who were empty at that time.
In the end I think a war with Russia would have dragged out longer then most people could imagine if it would ever have been finished with anything less then the destruction of the earth. So unless thats your goal we should all be very happy the US didn't decide to attack Russia.
